Condolences to those who died in Hamas’ terrorism: Modi tells Israel

Tel Aviv: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday reaffirmed New Delhi’s close ties with Israel while addressing the Knesset, expressing solidarity with the country following the October 7, 2023, terrorist attack by Hamas, according to a report by ANI.

Modi conveyed his deepest condolences to the people of Israel for every life lost in the attack and said the people of India shared their pain and grief. He stated that India stands firmly with Israel with full conviction in this moment and beyond.

“I also carry with me the deepest condolences of the people of India for every life lost and for every family whose world was shattered in the barbaric terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7th. We feel your pain, we share your grief. India stands with Israel firmly, with full conviction in this moment and beyond,” ANI quoted the PM.

Emphasising the need for sustained and coordinated global action against terrorism, the Prime Minister said that terror anywhere threatens peace everywhere. He asserted that no cause can justify the murder of civilians and that nothing can justify terrorism.

Referring to India’s own experience, Modi said the country has endured the pain of terrorism for a long time and recalled the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, in which innocent lives, including Israeli citizens, were lost. He said that India follows a consistent and uncompromising policy of zero tolerance for terrorism without double standards.

Modi added that terrorism aims to destabilise societies, block development and erode trust, and said India supports all efforts that contribute to durable peace and regional stability.
