Coins worth 11 Cr go missing from SBI; CBI raids 25 locations

New Delhi: After coins worth Rs 11 crore went missing from the Karauli SBI branch's vault in Rajasthan, CBI conducted raids in 25 locations on Thursday, PTI reported.

A case was registered by the CBI on April 13 after the Rajasthan High Court ordered the same.

The locations where the CBI conducted searches spread across Delhi, Jaipur, Dausa, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, Alwar, Udaipur and Bhilwara, premises belonged to some 15 former bank officials and others, police informed.

A preliminary inquiry had flagged the discrepancy in the SBI branch's cash reserve in August 2021, the bank decided to count the money, and thus the missing status came to the public.

A private source, which was outsourced for the counting procedure, inferred that coins worth Rs 11 crore went missing. Only 3,000 coin bags carrying about Rs 2 crores could be accounted for and were transferred to the RBI's coin holding branch.
