Christian women slapped, abused in Ranga Reddy after conversion accusation
Hederabad: Two young Christian women, believed to be minors, were allegedly slapped and verbally abused by a group of men in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district after being accused of attempting religious conversion, The Siasat Daily reported.
The incident reportedly took place last month near the Dr BR Ambedkar statue in Almasguda, which falls under the Meerpet police limits. A video of the confrontation has been circulating on social media.
In the clip, the men can be heard accusing the women of luring children with chocolates and trying to convert them. The women denied the allegation, saying they had only come to visit an aunt, and repeatedly pleaded to be allowed to leave.
One of the men allegedly tried to snatch their bags and used derogatory language, calling them prostitutes. The video was shared by an X account called Christian Voice, which condemned the assault and demanded criminal action against those responsible.
“No complaint so far, verifying: Police,” the post added.
Meerpet Police confirmed that the incident had occurred but said no formal complaint had been received so far. Station House Officer B Shoban said officials were examining the footage to identify both the victims and the attackers, and that the police would take suo motu cognisance if required.
