Chhattisgarh man uses Sunny Leon’s name to get 1,000 under Govt scheme

New Delhi: A man in Chhattisgarh allegedly created an account in the name of actor Sunny Leon for receiving monthly payment of Rs 1,000 under the state government’s Mahatari Vandan Yojana (Mother Veneration Scheme), The Free Press Journal reported.

The fraudster reportedly received the benefit every month since March 2024, which the government doled out to the married women in the state.

While registering for the benefit, the man, identified as Virendra Joshi, mentioned porn star Johnny Sins as Sunny Leone's husband.

Police have registered a case against the man and the officials responsible for verifying the eligible candidates for the scheme have been identified.

Meanwhile, district collector Haris S directed the Women and Child Development Department to conduct a thorough probe in the matter alongside seizing the bank account for recovery.

However Virendra Joshi, who works for a private company, reportedly told the police that his aadhar and bank account were missed and had no knowledge of the money being deposited into his account.

The fraud triggered political wrangle between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress.
