Chennai: Chennai police on Tuesday booked Former High Court Judge C S Karnan over his offensive remarks on judges.
The Chennai city Cyber Crime Police registered the case based on a complaint filed by about 10 women lawyers from the Bar of Madras High Court to Chief Justice Sharad A Bobde.
In a Viral video, they found Justice Karnan making objectionable comments on women, threatening judicial officers and spouses of judges with sexual assault. This also had Karnan naming several women employees of the court and lawyers, alleging judges of the supreme court and high court to harass them.
The judges also pointed out that Karnan's outrageous remarks evidently reveal his "deep-rooted misogyny" and send a dangerous message to existing many depraved men.
The complainants also asked in their letter to bring before law those who shot the video and propagated it on social media platforms.
Karnan was imprisoned before for contempt of court in 2017. When met with several corruption allegations during his career, Karnan had claimed that he was targeted because of his Dalit background.
