Following complaints, the Food Safety Department conducted an inspection at an ice cream parlour on Avinashi road in Chennai and sealed it on Thursday for severe lapses, including mixing alcohol in some desserts, officials informed.
Two staff in the parlour admitted to using alcohol in two of their desserts- caramel custard and dark chocolate- against food safety norms. Half-used bottles of brandy and whiskey were recovered from the parlour, officials added.
Furthermore, the staff who were preparing food at the parlour did not have medical fitness certificates, Food and Safety Department officials explained. They neither covered their hair nor wore masks and gloves.
The parlour was sealed in the presence of revenue officials.
