Kochi: The Central government has sought an explanation from the Kerala Waqf Board over the uploading of the disputed Munambam land on the Umeed portal, a centralised digital registry for waqf properties.
The board has been asked to submit its response within five days, The New Indian Express reported.
The notice was issued following complaints received by the Centre regarding the listing of around 404 acres of disputed land in Munambam, Ernakulam district, on the portal. The property was reportedly added to the registry last month using the board’s special powers.
Kerala Waqf Board chairman K S Hamsa said the board would respond to the notice only after its scheduled meeting on June 16. He was unavailable for further comments when contacted.
Sources said the board has also sought legal advice on the matter and is expected to submit its reply soon. Members of the Ernakulam division of the Kerala Waqf Board declined to comment on the issue.
