The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced an extension of the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) for another five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
Affirming the decision to extend the ban, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the decision aligns with Prime Minister Modi's unwavering commitment to zero tolerance against terrorism.
Addressing the press, Minister Shah emphasized the imperative of safeguarding India's sovereignty, security, and integrity, asserting that SIMI had been identified as an 'Unlawful Association' due to its involvement in fomenting terrorism and disrupting communal peace and harmony.
“Bolstering PM Modi’s vision of zero tolerance against terror, SIMI has been declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ for 5 years under UAPA,” Shah said.
Originating on April 25, 1977, at Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh, SIMI emerged as an organization primarily composed of youth and students.
