A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday reached Goa to take over the investigation into the death of BJP leader Sonali Phogat from the Goa Police.

Officers of the federal probe agency took over all the relevant documents from the local police before beginning their probe.

The team is expected to visit Curlie's shack where Sonali Phogat was seen partying hours before her death and also the site where she was staying in Goa. The rooms which were booked by her are still sealed.

The CBI team is also likely to take custody of two of the accused after producing them to Mapusa sessions court.

The CBI team on Friday also visited Sonali Poghat's residence in Haryana and spoke to her family. A statement is yet to be recorded.

Phogat was declared dead on arrival by doctors at a Goa hospital on August 23. Initially, this was being treated as a case of accidental death due to a heart attack, but multiple 'blunt injuries' in the autopsy forced the police to lodge a murder case.

Later, the Goa Police said that Phogat was "forcibly drugged by her two associates".

So far, five people have been arrested in the case, including her personal assistant Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh.
