CBI arrests 3 Karnataka superintendents of GST & Customs

Bengaluru: Two superintendents of GST (goods and service tax) and a superintendent of the Customs were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on separate cases of bribery, PTI reported.

The GST superintendents were arrested for demanding as well as accepting Rs 80,000 from a Ballari based complainant, as per a statement by CBI. The central probe agency conducted raids on the arrestees' residential and official locations, and it informed that both would be produced before the jurisdictional court in Bengaluru.

The Customs superintendent was arrested from Chamarajpet in Bengaluru for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.8,500 from a complainant for clearance of shipments the complainant imported.

CBI said, "Searches were conducted on the premises of the accused in Bengaluru, which led to the recovery of incriminating documents. The arrested accused was produced before the Jurisdictional Court in Bengaluru and remanded in judicial custody."
