The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's newly formed government to prioritize inclusivity, transparency, and the welfare of all citizens, especially the marginalized and vulnerable.
In a statement, the CBCI congratulated Modi on his third term as Prime Minister but emphasized the significant responsibility accompanying his mandate. The Bishops stressed the importance of upholding constitutional values and ensuring justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity for all citizens.
The CBCI underscored the necessity of "respecting and safeguarding the Constitution of India," describing it as the "cornerstone of our democracy." They appealed to the NDA government to work diligently towards these principles.
"It is crucial that the government remains inclusive, transparent, and committed to the welfare of all sections of society, particularly the marginalized and vulnerable. We trust that under Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government will adhere to these fundamental principles," the statement read.
The CBCI also congratulated the newly elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha, irrespective of party affiliation, urging them to serve as effective representatives of the people's concerns and aspirations within the legislative framework, reported The Wire.
The conference expressed hope that the government and its leaders would work harmoniously towards the collective good of the nation.
