Bhopal: The grandfather of Aneesh Awadhiya, who was among the two people killed when a speeding Porsche hit their bike in Pune on Saturday, said that bail granted to the accused, a drunk teen, should be cancelled.
Aneesh Awadhiya, hailing from Birsinghpur in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district, was an IT engineer working in the city.
Atmaram Awadhiya, Aneesh's grandfather was quoted as saying: "Two people have died in this accident. This is completely wrong. We want strict punishment. The bail granted to the accused should be cancelled."
Aneesh Awadhiya along with Ashwini Koshta, also an IT engineer, were returning from a get-together at around 2.15 am that day when their bike was hit from behind by a speeding Porsche and they died on the spot.
A Pune court granted bail to the accused who is aged 17 years and 8 month within 15 hours of the incident.
The court stipulated some conditions for the bail which includes him to write a 300-word essay on accidents, work with traffic police for 15 days, and suggested counselling and treatment for drinking problem.
The incident and swift bail granted to the accused triggered massive outrage.
Pune police said they had sought the court for permission to try the accused as an adult, which was rejected.
Meanwhile, the teen's father who is a prominent Pune realtor has now been arrested.
Aneesh Awadhiya's uncle Akhilesh Awadhiya said: "The accused, a minor, was drunk and was driving at 240 km per hour. He did not have a driving licence. This is murder, not accident."
