Bulldozers roll near Rithala metro station in Delhi

New Delhi: Only yesterday did Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal come down heavily on the demolition drive.

After three days' halt, the BJP-led Municipal Corporation started to roll bulldozers to an illegal encroachment area in the capital city today.

Buildings are being razed in ward No 28 (from Rithala metro station to sector 24 traffic light).

The structures thus pulled down were standing on the pavement of the main road. It is reportedly a government owned land.

As the officials of the civic body arrived there, the people, rather than resisting the drive, removed the temporarily constructed structures by themselves, according to IANS.

The Delhi Chief Minister on Monday condemned in his tweets BJP-controlled MCD( Muncipal Corporation of Delhi) for its demolition drive.

Calling it the "biggest destruction" in independent India, Kejriwal said 63 lakh people would lose houses and shops.

He said the municipal authorities were targeting only shanty colonies, despite people showing their occupancy papers.
