Bribe: CBI arrests 2 Telecom officials in Maharashtra

New Delhi: An assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom (Technology) and a Director (Technology) were arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case of alleged bribery, the probe agency informed. The two arrestees were working in the office of Advisor, MH LSA (Maharashtra Licensed Service Area), Department of Telecom, Ministry of Communications, Pune, IANS reported.

According to a senior CBI officer, the case was registered, naming Naresh Badawath, an Assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom (Technology), working in the office of Advisor, MH LSA, Pune, on a complaint.

Naresh allegedly demanded an undue advantage of Rs 3,00,000 from the complainant for not sending the inspection queries report and to avoid the adverse action of DoT for the queries found during the inspection of the complainant's company. The amount was later settled at Rs 2 lakhs, and one lakh was paid as the first instalment. The officer added that the agency formed a team and put a trap.

Naresh accepted the bribe while the Director (Technology-II), arrestee number two, Jaykumar Thorat, was called to share the amount.

CBI said Searches were conducted at the residential and office premises of both the accused at Pune, which had led to the recovery of incriminating documents. Cash of Rs 5.67 lakh was recovered from the residence of Assistant Divisional Engineer Telecom."

It added that the arrestees were produced before a special CBI court in Shivajinagar, Pune. They were remanded to CBI custody up to September 22.
