The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), the RSS-linked trade union will hold six national conventions to create awareness about privatisation and corporatisation related issues of the Central government.
A Press release issued on Tuesday by the BMS headquarters said that the national office bearers' deliberations on 22 and 23 May have decided to hold these conventions between June and August this year, and that this is a mass awakening programme on the disinvestment and privatisation of Public Sector Units (PSU), and corporatisation policies of Central Government.
General Secretary Binoy Kumar Sinha today said the conventions will be held at Cochin, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal, Kkanpur, Ambala and Guwahati. The press release states that employees of all public sector undertakings will participate in these conventions in large numbers.
It is significant that the trade union body, known for its affiliation to the RSS and the ruling BJP, and its abstention from most of the united strikes and protests at the national level against the Centre's anti-worker labour policies, is planning to focus on issues related to the privatisation and liberalisation leanings of the union government, a point where most of the trade unions across the country disagree with the government. They are particularly critical of the sell-off of PSU's, including profitable ones, to the private sector, in addition to their opposition to the labour policies in favour of corporates and against labour interests.
BMS however, in principle has opposed the privatisation drive of the government, though it often stopped short of going for direct action like other trade unions of the Opposition parties.
The BMS apex meeting decided to conduct a two-day national level meeting of Organised Sector Women employees at Varanasi in the first week of December 2022.
The BMS office bearers welcomed the decision of the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to confer the Global Health Leaders' Award to ASHA workers.
