BJP workers chant Jai Shri Ram, demand withdrawal of namaz room in assembly

Jharkhand opposition BJP protested over the allotment of a room for offering namaz and disrupted the proceedings of the Jharkhand assembly.

BJP MLAs sat on the stairs at the entrance and chanted Hanuman Chalisa and Hare Rama, and held up placards. They further trooped into the well chanting Jai Shri Ram once the proceedings began and demanded the recall of the order pertaining to the allotment of the namaz room.

"Go back to your seats. You are good members. Please cooperate with the Chair," Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahto said, referring to BJP members, including Bhanu Pratap Shahi.

The speaker adjourned the House till 12.45 pm after the ruckus continued. BJP workers held protests statewide against the decision and burnt effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the speaker on Sunday.

Room number TW 348 was allotted for offering namaz by the speaker. This prompted a demand for a Hanuman temple and places of worship of other religions by the BJP on the assembly premises.
