BJP worker thrashes Dalit engineer with shoe in Uttar Pradesh

Ballia: A BJP worker thrashed an electricity department engineer from the Dalit community with a shoe in Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, which is ruled by the party. A viral video of the incident, inside the electricity office, showed the same and features the BJP worker using cast slurs, NDTV reported.

The engineer narrated the incident, saying that two dozen men, accompanying the BJP worker, stormed the office and started thrashing him without giving any reason. One of the assailants was Munna Bahadur Singh, who claimed to be a former mandal president of the saffron party.

An angry Munna could be seen in the video, screaming at officials in the office and charging at the Dalit official to thrash him. Though the attacker and the victim were briefly separated, the attacker returned with a shoe in his hand and repeatedly hit the engineer.

The engineer told media reporters, “Munna Bahadur Singh barged inside with 20-25 men and started thrashing me. He didn't ask me anything, nor did he share his grievance. He hit my head with a shoe, punched me, and abused me using caste slurs. Other staff then intervened and saved me,” NDTV quoted.

The engineer further said that the CCTV system in the office was not working, and it was his colleague who shot the entire episode. The victim later went for a medical check-up and filed a complaint with the police.

However, Munna Singh was also reported to have approached the district hospital with wounds. According to him, he sustained wounds from an attack by officials in the electricity office, including the Dalit engineer.
