Bhopal: BJP leaders in Madhya Pradesh have issued stern warnings of legal action against Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra following her social media post accusing the state government of serious corruption charges.
Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra denounced Priyanka’s allegations as baseless and demanded concrete evidence to substantiate her claims. "Options are open before the state government and the BJP for action," he cautioned, in a veiled reference to potential legal repercussions.
State BJP Chief V D Sharma further escalated the situation, alleging that Priyanka had cited a fabricated letter in her post to level accusations against the government. Sharma accused the Congress leader of peddling lies and attempting to manipulate public opinion. "This is a conspiracy," he declared, vowing that the BJP would pursue legal action against her under cybercrime laws.
Priyanka’s post had centred around a letter supposedly written by a union of contractors from Madhya Pradesh to the Chief Justice of the High Court. The letter claimed that the contractors were being compelled to pay a 50% commission before receiving their payments, likening the alleged corruption to a previous scandal in Karnataka where a 40% commission was implicated.
Responding to the accusations, K K Mishra, Chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Media Department, asserted that the BJP was attempting to stifle opposition by resorting to "political terror" and unconstitutional means. He remained resolute in his party's stance, insisting that evidence of corruption within the BJP government would be presented in due time.
