Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday suspended senior leader and former Union Minister R.K. Singh with immediate effect, citing “anti-party activities.”
The suspension follows months of public statements by Singh that allegedly contradicted the party’s official stance. In a letter from the state headquarters, signed by BJP state president Arun Singh, the party stated:
"Your activities are against the party and amount to indiscipline. The party has taken serious note of this, as it has caused harm to the organisation. Therefore, you are being suspended and asked to explain why you should not be expelled. Submit your clarification within one week of receiving this letter."
Singh’s suspension has stirred political circles, as he has long been regarded as an influential figure within the party and the Sangh Parivar. Over recent months, he publicly questioned organisational decisions, ticket distribution, and electoral strategies. Attempts by party leaders to resolve the differences internally reportedly failed.
A former IAS officer, Singh transitioned to politics after holding key administrative roles. He served as Union Minister of State for Home and later as Minister of Power, overseeing reforms in power generation, distribution, and rural electrification.
Political observers noted that Singh had grown increasingly dissatisfied with the leadership over local political equations and strategic choices, with his public remarks often seen as contradicting the party line.
The BJP emphasised that organisational discipline is non-negotiable, regardless of a leader’s stature, noting that similar action has been taken against other leaders in the past.
