Maharashtra State Unit BJP Spokesperson on Sunday urged Uddhav Thackeray government to take 'immediate' action against student leader Sharjeel Usmani for allegedly defaming Hindu sentiments at Elgar Parishad. He was one of the key speakers of second edition of Elgar Parishad that was held on January 30 in the birth anniversary of late Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula.
In his tweet on January 31, Keshav questioned Uddhav Thackeray and asked "Will the CM take action against Sharjeel or continue with his rhetoric that they have not left Hindutva? He also urged State Home Minister Anil Deshmukhto take sudden action against Sharjeel.elgar parishad 2021-2
According to BJP sources, Sharjeel Usmani, a former student of Aligarh Muslim University allegedly made defamatory remarks about Hinduism and upheld more than two hours of incendiary speeches by hurting Hindu sentiments.
With strict police security, the second edition of Elgar Parishad was conducted at Ganesh Kala KridaManch in Pune. Around 200-300 persons took participated in the anti-caste event. Apart from Sharjeel Usmani, Dalit Bahujan Journalist Prashant Kanojia, Jamia Student Leader Ayesha Renna, Author and Activist Arundhati Roy, Former IAS officer Kannan Gopinath addressed the mass audience.
