BJP seeks new face to contest against Mamata in coming bypoll

Kolkata: The BJP is yet to decide a candidate to contest against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming Assembly bypoll for the Bhabanipur constituency, said the Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh.

BJP MLA and Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata in the recent Assembly elections in the state, would not be contesting against her this, Ghosh said asking why one person will defeat her multiple times.

The party will choose someone else to fight her, he added.

Ghosh also hinted at seeking legal options against the Election Commission's move to hold bypoll in Bhabanipur.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the Police to not take any coercive action in the FIR it has filed against Suvendu Adhikari in the case pertaining to the alleged suicide of his bodyguard in 2018.

The BJP MLA approached the court seeking relief from police investigations in six FIRs registered in four police stations across the state, alleging that the cases were politically motivated.
