New Delhi: The Congress party said on Monday that the BJP brought up a fake reservation issue involving Muslims to adjourn Parliament for the day in order to divert the House's attention from the cash stash found in a Delhi High Court judge's home, Mint reported.

Following a fire alarm at Justice Yashwant Varma’s, who was out of the station, a fire brigade found bundles of cash burning. A video of the same surfaced, which later led to debates about the corruption inflicted on the Indian judiciary. The Supreme Court Collegium has decided to transfer the judge, while the Delhi High Court withdrew judicial work from Justice Varma.

On Monday, the BJP raised the matter of the Karnataka government deciding to give Muslims a 4 per cent reservation in tendering government contracts and claimed state Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar suggested that the Constitution must be altered to accommodate the Karnataka government’s decision to implement the reservation.

However, Shivakumar denied that he made such a statement which suggested that Constitution should be changed in anyanner so as to provide religion based reservation.

The upper house was adjourned in the pre-lunch session after the treasury and opposition benches battled over the Karnataka Muslim reservation move. No business was transacted during the session.

Later, Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, wrote on X, “Today the BJP came up with a completely fake issue to get Parliament adjourned so that the very serious issue of Justice Yashwant Varma's conduct does not get discussed.”

Blaming the BJP for adjourning the House, Congress MP from Wayanad, Priyanka Gandhi, said that the BJP has been deliberately creating a ruckus from time to time, finding some excuse to adjourn the House.

Regarding the alleged discovery of a substantial amount of cash from Justice Varma's residence, the Supreme Court on March 22 uploaded on its website the inquiry report of Delhi High Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya -complete with photos and videos- in an unprecedented move.
