BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty questioned over 'inciteful speech'

The Kolkata Police questioned BJP leader and actor Mithun Chakraborty about a complaint filed in Maniktala police station alleging he was responsible for inciting post-poll violence through one of his speeches during a BJP campaign. Though Chakraborty moved the Calcutta High Court for quashing the case, the court asked him to provide his e-mail address to appear for questioning via video conferencing.

As per the complaint, Chakraborty used phrases such as "marbo ekhane lash porbe shoshane (Will hit you here and the body will land in the crematorium)" and "ek chobole chobi (one snake bite and you will turn into a photograph)" at a rally in Kolkata after he joined the BJP on March 7. The complaint further added that these dialogues are enough to incite violence.

The actor, however, told the court that he had only uttered popular dialogues from his movies, and they were only recreational. He added that he is innocent and in no way connected with any offence as alleged by the complainant.
