Hyderabad: Following a large controversy after the BJP candidate from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, Kompella Madhavi Latha, made a gesture of shooting an imaginary arrow, alleged to be in the direction of a mosque, she ridiculed a complaint against her on the incident on Sunday, Asian News International reported.
Video of her making the gesture during Ram Navami celebrations surfaced on social media.
On Sunday, Madhavi wondered that if she were against Muslims, why should she participate in Hazrat Ali Saab ka Juloos on Ramzan and distribute food to many people with her own hands.
During the Ram Navami festival, the mosque was covered with white cloth to avoid communal tensions.
A resident of First Lancer in Hyderabad, Shaik Imran, complained to the Begam Bazar Police Station against Madhavi.
She reacted that it was the Ram Navami festival and she had no real bow and arrow in hand. The allegation against her was made using a false video, and the FIR was registered.
She claimed that she was accused of provoking Muslims, but in the videos where she performed the act, the mosque was not there in the frame. Therefore, she said the allegation was ridiculous.
However, on April 19, she wrote on X, "It has come to my attention that a video of mine is being circulated in the media to create negativity. I would like to clarify that this is an incomplete video, and if anyone's feelings are hurt due to such a video, I would like to apologise."
On Friday, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, who is contesting in the Hyderabad seat, lashed out at Madhavi, saying that she wasn't just targeting a mosque but the peace and tranquillity of the city itself.
The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, which comprise the old city, are going to polls on May 13.
