Bike-borne attackers kill Ajit Pawar faction NCP leader in Pune

Pune: A former corporator of Pune Municipal Corporation, Vanraj Andekar, died after a group of men attacked him in the city's Nana Peth area last night.

Vanraj Andekar, who was an NCP leader of the Ajit Pawar faction, succumbed to injuries as he was rushed to a hospital, NDTV reported.

It is reported that Vanraj Andekar was attacked out of personal enmity.

Footage from a CCTV camera showed at least 12 men arriving on two-wheelers at Andekar's premises when he was alone.

Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma reportedly said that assailants fired five rounds at the leader alongside attacking him with ‘long-blade sickles’.

The officer further said that Vanraj Andekar was brought dead to KEM hospital, adding ‘Further details will be given in due course.’

The attackers tampered with the power supply before the crime, turning off the lights off the area.

Andekar was a corporator of the civic body, before it came under the administrator appointed by the state government.
