Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president and Union Minister Chirag Paswan said on Sunday that he expects the new NDA government in Bihar to be in place before November 22, when the current Assembly’s term ends.
He told reporters that clarity on the government’s formation would emerge soon, adding that he planned to speak with senior Union Ministers later in the day. He suggested that a blueprint for the new administration would likely be ready within a day or two.
Paswan had earlier indicated that the government would be led by JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar, who is the state’s longest-serving chief minister.
He also rejected allegations made by Jan Suraaj spokesperson Pavan Varma, who had claimed that the central government diverted World Bank funds intended for other projects and used them to influence the Bihar election by distributing money to women voters. Paswan dismissed Varma’s remarks as baseless and questioned the credibility of his sources, TNIE reported.
Varma, speaking to ANI previously, had alleged that Bihar’s public debt had reached ₹4.06 lakh crore, with daily interest payments of ₹63 crore, and that the state treasury was depleted. He had further claimed that ₹10,000 payments given to women were drawn from ₹21,000 crore provided by the World Bank, and that ₹14,000 crore was disbursed shortly before the election code of conduct came into effect. He later acknowledged that the information might not be entirely accurate and apologised if it was incorrect.
Despite high expectations and an intensive campaign, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj party failed to win any seats.
The BJP achieved a notable victory, emerging as the largest party with 89 seats, while the JD(U) followed closely with 85. The NDA crossed the 200-seat mark for the second time. Among its allies, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) won 19 seats, the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) secured five, and the Rashtriya Lok Morcha took four.
Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan suffered a major defeat, securing only 35 seats. The AIMIM won five seats, and the BSP managed to win one.
