Bhopal tunnel collapse: 7 of 9 workers rescued

Bhopal: Nine workers got trapped inside a tunnel under construction caved in at Sleemanabad in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. Seven of the nine were rescued, and the relief operations are still going on, NDTV reported.

The tunnel which was constructed for the Bargi canal project caved in on Saturday evening.

Katni district collector Priyank Mishra said that the rescue team includes local officials as well as the State Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDRF). The latter arrived from Jabalpur.

Madhya Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora is monitoring the rescue operation from the state secretariat.

The rescue operation is under the monitoring of Madhya Pradesh Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora. He told PTI that the SDERF team with the necessary equipment is trying to reach the labourers by digging a shaft. He added that the Collector and SP are camping at the site and supervising the operations.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan enquired about the incident through the phone. He instructed those in charge to ensure proper treatment to those injured.

In Gurgaon, the body of a woman died during a collapse that happened in a multi-storeyed residential building, retrieved after 54 hours of the incident, NDTV reported.

The collapse had taken two lives, including the woman, while her husband had injured his legs. The latter was trapped in the debris for 16 hours. The dining floor of the Chintels Paradiso in Gurgaon collapsed on Thursday evening. The housing complex management claimed that it was due to negligence during repair works. Gurugrm district administration has initiated a probe into the incident.
