Bengaluru: Investigations into the murder of Assam-based vlogger Maya Gogoi have revealed chilling details, with police sources confirming that the accused, Aarav Hanoy, spent two days with her body in a service apartment in Bengaluru.
The shocking discovery came to light on Tuesday after Maya's body was found in the Indiranagar police station limits. Authorities revealed that Hanoy, her boyfriend for six months, allegedly killed her and then spent two days in the apartment, smoking cigarettes in front of the corpse.
Police have launched a manhunt for Hanoy, whose phone has been turned off. Investigators are tracking his movements, with searches underway in Kerala and other regions. Hanoy was last seen leaving the service apartment, heading towards Bengaluru's Majestic area, where he disconnected his phone.
Maya had been living with her sister in the city’s HSR Layout and had told her she would not return home, as she was attending office parties on Friday and Saturday. The couple had checked into the service apartment on November 23, and police found that Hanoy had brought a knife and purchased a nylon rope online. Authorities believe the murder occurred on Sunday night, with Hanoy leaving the apartment early Tuesday at 8:19 AM.
Surveillance footage confirms the couple entered the apartment on November 23. Police are now investigating whether Hanoy had planned to dismember Maya’s body, given the long time he spent with it. No one else is seen entering the apartment between November 23 and November 26.
This gruesome case recalls a similar incident in Bengaluru earlier this year when Mahalaxmi, a single working woman, was murdered by her lover, who dismembered her body and stuffed the pieces into a refrigerator.
