Bengaluru Cafe Blast: One of the suspects detained

Bengaluru police have reportedly detained a suspect believed to be linked to the explosion that rocked the Rameswaram cafe in Whitefield on Friday, March 1. The identity of the detained individual has not been disclosed, but reports indicate that he was seen alongside the main suspect responsible for planting the explosive device inside the cafe.

According to the police, the primary suspect entered the cafe with his identity concealed by a mask and glasses, carrying a plate of idli. The detained individual was captured on CCTV footage alongside the suspect and is currently undergoing questioning by a special team from the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police.

The incident, which took place around 1 pm during the busy lunch hour, resulted in at least nine injuries, including three staff members. Eyewitnesses recounted a plume of black smoke followed by a loud blast, shocking the approximately 35-40 patrons present in the cafe at the time.

Authorities have registered a case at HAL Police Station under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah revealed that the police suspect an improvised explosive device (IED) was used, brought in by an individual carrying a small bag.

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and urged the media to refrain from speculative reporting. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar assured the public that there is no immediate cause for concern and that authorities are diligently probing the incident to uncover the motive behind the act.

Rameshwaram Cafe, a popular eatery in Bengaluru renowned for its dosas, experienced the blast during its peak hours. The cafe, with multiple branches across the city, has attracted notable figures, including former Masterchef Australia chef Gary Mehigan, and recently, actor Kartik Aaryan paid a visit. The police are working tirelessly to piece together the details surrounding this unsettling event.
