Kolkata: A West Bengal government employee walked around Kolkata's Newtown area holding the knife with which he stabbed at least four of his colleagues on Thursday.

Amit Kumar Sarkar, working with the technical education department of Karigari Bhavan here, allegedly knifed his colleagues after he was denied leave, NDTV reported.

Footage showed him walking the city in broad daylight with the blood-stained knife in one hand and a bag in other and one on his back.

When people began filming him on their phones, Sarkar was seen warning them not to come near him.

A senior police official reportedly said that Sarkar, who is a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas district, attacked his colleagues following ‘a tiff’ over taking time off. Afterwards he ‘tried to flee’.

Two of those injured including Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santunu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul are said to be in critical condition.

It is reported citing police that the accused had a fight with his colleagues; it is not yet known why he was denied leave.

The accused has been arrested and the police suspect the man has mental health issues.
