A wall of a barrack in the Bhind district jail of Madhya Pradesh caved in early on Saturday. 22 prisoners were injured in the incident.
Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Singh said that the wall of barrack number six collapsed around 5,10 am. He added that one of the inmates had serious injuries and was rushed to Gwalior for advanced medical treatment. Others were taken to the district hospital.
There were 255 inmates in the prison at the time of the incident. Police personnel initiated a rescue operation as soon as the information was received.
An official said that the building is quite old and the rain may have contributed to the deterioration.
