Bangladesh MP was honey-trapped, killed, chopped up: report

Kolkata: It seems police are making headway in the investigation into the murder and dismembering of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who came to Kolkata on May 12, NDTV reported.

Arrived in India for medical treatment, Anwarul Azim Anar reportedly stayed with a friend, Gopal Biswas, till he went missing a few days later.

He was last seen at an apartment in Kolkata’s New Town.

It is reported from police inputs that the MP was likely to have been murdered, skinned, and chopped up in the apartment before his body parts were dumped in plastic bags in the city.

However, alongside other mysteries in the murder it remains unanswered where he may have gone on May 14.

Making some headway in the probe, police arrested an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant, Jihad Hawladar, who confessed to his involvement in the murder.

It is now reported that Dhaka police as having an answer to the question about who lured the MP to death.

There emerges the role of Shilasti Rahman, a woman who the police believe 'honey-trapped' the Bangladesh MP, delivering him into the trap.

"The investigation indicates the MP fell into a 'honey trap'. It seems he was lured by the woman. We suspect he was murdered soon after he went to the flat," a Kolkata cop reportedly passed on info from Dhaka.

CCTV footage from the apartment reportedly showed Anar entering the flat with a woman. NDTV reported that Shilasti Rahman is detained by Dhaka police.

Alongside, police in Kolkata made a breakthrough on Friday morning arresting Jihad Hawladar who gave information about four other Bangladesh nationals allegedly involved in the murder.

The mastermind behind the murder is reported to be Akhtaruzzaman, a United States citizen of Bangladeshi origin who is known to Shilasti Rahman.

It is reported that he may have paid ₹ 5 crore to Anar's killers.
