The Mumbai High Court on Wednesday granted the plea by superstar Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan to discontinue his weekly appearances before the Narcotics Control Bureau office which was a key part of the bail conditions he agreed to in order to exit Tihar jail.
Aryan, through an interim application, argued through senior advocate Amit Desai, has stated that since the probe in the case has been transferred to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), Delhi office of NCB, his visits to the Mumbai office could be relaxed as the latter is not interrogating him and, consequently, his attendance every Friday may not be required.
His plea also stated that every visit on Friday involved special escort by police officers as well as copious amounts of media attention which he found very disturbing and unwarranted. Through his lawyer, Khan said that he was not likely to flee the country or the state as he had "firm roots in society" and would be willing to present himself before investigators at any moment.
The High Court granted relaxation of his bail plea given that he would appear before the NCB whenever needed given a 72 hour notice beforehand.
Aryan Khan has been visiting the NCB office in Mumbai every Friday since October 28 when he was granted bail by the High Court in the infamous Cordelia Cruise ship drugs case where he, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha are accused of smuggling and consuming various drugs including hashish and MDMA.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi and advocate Satish Maneshinde appearing for Aryan had argued that the NCB had made no recovery from the 23-year-old, nor conducted a medical examination to show consumption of any narcotic. The NCB on the other hand had argued that he was involved in drugs smuggling and was a regular consumer of drugs for two years.
