Babri Masjid banner: Right-wing outfits & students clash in Pune

Pune: In the backdrop of the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, a clash broke out between members of right-wing outfits and students of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) here on Tuesday afternoon. The clashes broke after the right-wing activists set a banner erected by the student associations to fire inside the premises of the institution, which read ‘Remember Babri, Death of the Constitution”, The Indian Express reported.

The banner was referring to the 1992 incident of demolition of Babri Masjid by khar sevaks in Ayodhya.

Deccan Gymkhana police said that the clash occurred around 2 pm.

They said that the initial information they received suggested that the FTII Students’ Association erected the banner, and some members of various right-wing outfits entered the campus to take down the banner. They set it on fire, chanting slogans, and a clash broke out between them and a group of FTII students.

Teams were dispatched to the spot as soon as they received information, they said, adding that police intervened to pacify the situation. Some people are sent to a medical examination for injuries, and the results are awaited, police said.

FTII is located on Law College Road in Pune.
