Baba Siddique's son joins Ajit Pawar’s party ahead of polls

Mumbai: The former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique’s son Zeeshan Siddique joined the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party days after his father was shot dead, NDTV reported.

Siddique, who was expelled by the Congress in August, is likely to contest in his sitting seat of Vandre (East) against ex-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's nephew.

Alongside in his political move, Zeeshan took a jibe terming the Congress and its ally Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) ‘old friends’ after Uddhav’s party announced its candidates yesterday.

In his post on platform X in Hindi, Zeeshan said that old friends declared their candidate in Vandre East, adding ‘It was never in their nature to support. Keep relationship with the one who respects and honors you’, Mint reported.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly polls, Zeeshan representing the Congress, defeated Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar.

His father left the Congress in February 2024 to join Ajit Pawar’s the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The Congress expelled Zeeshan on the grounds of alleged ‘cross voting’ in the Maharashtra legislative council polls.
