Azad's "DNA Modi-Fied": Congress hits back at the "resignation letter"

New Delhi: A vocal slugfest has set in after Ghulam Nabi Azad shot a barrage of accusations against the congress leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi which prompted Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh to question Azad's character.

Jairam Ramesh said "GNA's DNA has been modi-fied," and termed his resignation letter "inaccurate" as well as accusing him of "betraying" the party, according to NDTV.

Ramesh said Azad who betrayed the Congress by his vicious attacks was given great respect by the Congress leadership.

Azad targeted Rahul in his resignation letter, blaming him for the party's failure in 2014 and subsequent electoral setbacks.

However, the Congress leadership countered Azad's resignation questioning the timing of his quitting when Congress was fighting BJP.

Sources close to Mr Azad have said he plans to start a new party, NDTV reports.

Azad was the leading member of the G-23 dissident group, which called for sweeping changes in the party in a letter in 2020.

Sandeep Dikshit who is part of G-23 said Azad's letter of resignation gave him a sense of dismay and a sense of betrayal.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said no one expected such a letter from Azad, adding that Azad was a sycophant himself during the time of Sanjay Gandhi.
