The Election Commission of India is holding a meeting with poll observers across five states to conduct free, fair, and safe Assembly elections. This is the first briefing of the commission to the senior officers.
About 900 officers have been designated as poll observers in different categories, including General, Police, and Expenditure.
The core issues of the electioneering process are being discussed, sources said. The officials have also been asked to implement the Covid-19 protocol strictly during the election process.
The elections to the assemblies of the five states- Uttarakhand, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, and Punjab- shall be held in seven phases starting from February 10. The counting of votes for all five states will be done on March 10.
