Assam to Introduce ‘Historic Bills’ on ‘Love Jihad’, Polygamy

Nagaon: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Wednesday that the state government will introduce several bills during the next Assembly session, including legislation addressing ‘love jihad’ and polygamy.

Speaking at an official event in Nagaon, Sarma said the proposed bills will also cover the preservation of Satras (Vaishnavite monasteries) and land rights for tea tribe communities. He noted that further details would be shared once the state cabinet approves the draft legislation.

“We will introduce some important and historic bills,” Sarma stated, adding that cabinet clearance is awaited before specifics can be disclosed.
