The BJP-ruled state of Assam, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is known for his Islamophobic remarks and for using constitutionally given powers to target Muslims, has released an AI-generated video implying that Muslims will dominate the state if the saffron party is not in power, portraying beef consumption and Muslim denomination as threats ahead of next year’s Assembly elections.
The video was posted by the official BJP Assam Pradesh account on X on September 15 and has already attracted 2.5 million views, and its contents have provoked sharp criticism and divided reactions on the internet, according to The Siasat Daily.
The post accompanying the video read, “We can’t let this dream of Paaijaan (Muslims) to be true!!” and the imagery used throughout suggested a dystopian future for Assam under Muslim dominance.
The video begins with the depiction of an elderly Muslim man cutting meat under the banner of “Beef Legalisation” and then shifts to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and deputy leader Gaurav Gogoi with a Pakistani flag in the background under the caption “Pakistan Link Pirty.”
It proceeds to show Assam’s iconic tea gardens filled only with Muslim tourists and labelled “Assam Tea States,” while prominent landmarks such as the Guwahati Airport, Rang Ghar, Guwahati Accoland, and the city’s stadium are portrayed as entirely Muslim-dominated spaces.
The video goes further to show illegal migrants entering Assam with ease, Hindus losing land to Muslims, and a claim that without BJP governance, the state would see a Muslim population exceeding ninety per cent. It concludes with the message, “Choose Your Vote Carefully,” thereby framing the coming election as a referendum on the survival of Hindu identity in Assam.
Hyderabad MP and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi denounced the video as disturbing and accused the BJP of advancing repulsive Hindutva ideology, writing on X that “the very existence of Muslims in India is a problem for them, their dream is a Muslim-mukt bharat.”
Reactions on social media have been sharply polarised as many condemned the campaign as fearmongering and communal propaganda, while others supported its message. One X user remarked, “BJP can’t campaign without Pakistan,” while another said, “Shame on every Assamese Hindu who endorses this vicious ad.
This is what @himantabiswa has reduced Assam to a radicalised communal state.” Another user warned, “BJPs hate driven politics is becoming a cancer for India. Instead of uniting, they thrive on dividing Hindus and Muslims just to grab votes.”
However, some expressed support by calling it “Congress’ dream,” while others insisted, “Paaijaan can keep dreaming… Assam will never be his fiefdom.” Appeals were also made to voters to stand with the BJP, with one supporter writing, “Please Save Assam Please Choose Only BJP.”
