New Delhi: After ending 30 days of pious fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims today are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr , basking in festivity across the nation.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted the nation tweeting, ‘I also pray for everyone's wonderful health and well-being. Eid Mubarak!"
Eid-ul-Fitr, celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is announced after the sighting of moon.
As with tradition, the sighting of the new moon varies according to geographical location, hence Eid celebrations occur in many countries on different days.
Saudi Arabia and many other Arab countries are celebrating on Saturday after Shawwal crescent moon was sighted yesterday alongside the countries including India, Iran, Pakistan and Indonesia.
Eid celebrations are traditionally marked with grand feasts, a jaunt to park with children and family visits.
NDTV reported heartening glimpses of celebrations happening, especially of people hugging and greeting each other after prayer at Delhi's Jama Masjid.
An overwhelmed man told news agency ANI outside Juma Masjid that he was extending his wishes to the entire country on the occasion of Eid, adding further the man said, ‘Delicious food items will be made in our houses today.’
He also said that Eid-Ul-Fitr sends the message of peace, brotherhood, humanity and love, according to the report.
GR Siddique, who is from Ghaziabad, reportedly said that ‘Namaz is being offered everywhere in India with love.’
