Armoured bullet-proof Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard joins Modi's cavalcade

The highly sophisticated Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard has joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cavalcade. A massive security upgrade to the PM, the car can survive bullets and explosive blasts. It is certified with VR10-level protection providing the highest level of protection. The car windows are coated with polycarbonate that can withstand hardened steel core bullets. Laced with the 2010 Explosion Proof Vehicle rating, it can protect occupants from a 15 kg TNT explosion within the perimeter of only two meters.

The decision to get an armoured car was made after the elite Special Protection Group (SPG)'s security review of the PM. Earlier, the PM used to travel in the Range Rover Vogue and the Toyota Land Cruiser. He used a modified Mahindra Bolero while he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

The S650 Guard has a 6.0 litre twin-turbo V12 engine that produces 516 bhp and a peak torque of approximately 900 Nm. The maximum speed has been capped at 160kmph. The lower part of the vehicle is heavily armoured and shall protect the occupant from direct explosions. The cabin of the car has been designed such that the occupant will continue to get air supply even during a gas attack. It also has special run-flat tyres that will continue to function in case of damage or puncture to ensure a quick escape from dangerous areas. It is also assumed to be equipped with sophisticated gadgets and comfortable seating arrangements.

The car has been designed on order and the cost of it is unknown. It was first spotted at Hyderabad House in Delhi where Modi welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin. It was also spotted in the convoy in a rally recently.
