Imphal: Following the widespread outrage over the death of two students who went missing in July, the Manipur government on Tuesday promised ‘swift and decisive’ action.
The photos of bodies of the students, a 17-year-old girl, and a 20-year-old man , emerged on social media, sparking protest.
Another photo reportedly showed the students sitting on a compound, which is believed to be a jungle camp of an armed group, according to a report in NDTV.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is looking into the case, has made it a point to probe the allegations of rape before the murder of the minor, the report said citing sources.
The girl was in white t-shirt while and the man in checked shirt had a backpack; there were two men with guns in the background.
Although their bodies, nevertheless photographed as lying on the ground later, have not yet been found.
The students, who were last seen in Bishnupur district, had been allegedly kidnapped by armed miscreants from a place around it.
Officials will use cyber forensics tools to identify the men with guns visible in the background, according to the report.
‘It has come to the notice of the state government that the photos of two students... who have been missing since July 2023 have surfaced on social media. It may be noted that this case has already been handed over to the CBI as per the wishes of the people of the state,’ the Manipur government was quoted as stating.
