Anti-Muslim slogans raised at BJP rally in Jantar Mantar, FIR registered

New Delhi: In an unfortunate incident, inflammatory and anti-Muslim slogans were reported to have been raised at an event organised by former Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Ashwini Upadhya on Sunday at Jantar Mantar. BJP leader Gajendra Chauhan was also present at the gathering.

The event, organised under the 'Bharat Jodo Movement', demanded the end of old  "colonial-era laws" by implementing a Uniform Civil Code.

In a video that has gone viral on social media,  people were seen shouting communal slogans threatening Muslims while saying "Ram, Ram". "Hindustan mein rehna hoga jai shri ram kehna hoga (To stay in India, must say Jai Shri Ram)," was one such slogan raised by the members.

However, Supreme Court lawyer and former Delhi BJP spokesperson Ashwani Upadhyay said that he is not aware of the video that had gone viral. He commented that only five or six were shouting slogans, and said that such slogans should not have been raised.

After the video went viral, the Delhi Police have filed a case and is trying to identify those in the video.

The slogans were shouted in the presence of Narsinghanand Saraswati, a priest notorious for hate speeches.
