Krishnagiri: A video showed a school teacher in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district tearfully narrating how much she struggles to shore up her school with bare classrooms where poor students study.
Principal Shakti told a Gram Sabha at Salamarathupatti village in Mathur town that her efforts to arrange basic amenities for students proved fruitless, according to India Today.
Shakti helms a government school in Olaipatti where since a 60-year-old building was pulled down students cry for at least separate classrooms for each grade.
She said the school with a total of 95 students, where class 4 and 5 are sitting in one room and from LKG to Class 3 are being taught together and there is no room for students from 6 to 8 either.
Shakti was heard saying in the video that she had been telling this to Gram Sabha meeting for long, adding that the schools wants buildings, bathrooms, compound wall and grounds.
She said that students studying up to class 8 who are aged 13 years old should play for their health but they don't have play ground in the school.
She is worried over the children's safety after wiring laid for electricity causing "earth shock" as it not lasting for more than six months.
Shakti wrote to the BDO office but the officials out there rejected her proposal saying that it would cost Rs 25,000 to 30,000 and instead asked her to user her 'revenue' to finish the work.
A helpless Sakti said in the video that a government school is nothing but cursed. She said she would rather take the Voluntary Retirement Scheme than begging to authorities.
The teacher's cry for basic amenities in her school flies in the face of Chief Minister Stalin's touted schemes for schools including breakfast for children to stop dropouts.
