Mumbai: Reliance Industries head Mukesh Ambani announced on Monday the ascension of his daughter Isha as the head of the Reliance group's retail business. He appointed his younger son Anant as the leader of the company's new energy business, NDTV reported.
This comes after the June announcement by Ambani, appointing his son Akash Ambani as chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, the telecom unit.
At the 45th Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries, where she was appointed as the head, Isha made a presentation on placing grocery orders using WhatsApp as well as making payments. She said Reliance Retail plans to launch a Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) business.
This year Reliance Retail opened 2,500 plus stores, taking its total number to 15,000 plus across the country.
In the meantime, Jio has announced that being rolling out 5G networks from Diwali onwards, which is in October. In the same month, the network will be available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata, The Indian Express reported.
The nationwide rolling out of the same will be done by December 23rd, it said. Reliance was the highest bidder in India's 5G spectrum auction, with a spending of Rs 88,078 crore. Jio will be partnering with Google to make more affordable 5G phones for the masses, it said and added that their vision is not to restrict the technology within the privileged but for everyone.
Mukesh Ambani said that he had invested Rs 2 lakh crore in the rollout of 5G. He claimed that Reliance's fixed broadband service is the largest in India, with more than seven million customers. Two out f three people looking for a new connection choose Jio broadband, he added.
