Akhilesh Yadav's Zinger On Yogi Adityanath's Oath Ceremony

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party chief hit back at the new BJP government in Uttar Pradesh on Friday, saying its ministers were sworn in at a stadium constructed when his own government was in power.

Swearing-in ceremonies were held at the 50,000-seater Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium.

"Congratulations to the new government that they are taking oath in the stadium built by the Samajwadi Party. The oath should not be merely to form the government, but also to serve the people in a true sense," Mr Yadav tweeted.

After being elected to the State Assembly in the recent Uttar Pradesh elections, he opted to resign as an MP, turning his attention heavily to state politics ahead of the next national election in 2024.

Yadav's main rival in the state elections, Adityanath, was elected BJP legislature leader in Uttar Pradesh unanimously on Thursday, after which he was sworn in as the state's new chief minister.

Several Union Ministers, including Modi, Singh, Shah, and other members of the BJP-ruled states also attended the oath-taking ceremony at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium.

The monk-turned-politician has won a second term as governor of the state after serving the full five years - a feat repeated after 37 years.

BJP allies in Uttar Pradesh also had strong performances, winning 255 seats.

The chief minister is expected to carry the momentum of the party's electoral victory to fulfill the poll promises and give a further push for the development of the state in his second term.
