Ahmedabad police save couple who consumed poison after quarrel

Timely intervention by the Ahmedabad Rural Police saved the lives of a couple who had consumed poison after a domestic dispute.

The incident occurred in the Bopal area during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

Around 2 am, a police patrol team noticed a woman crying outside Devdarshan Apartment. Her 11-year-old son was by her side, also in tears. On her lap lay her unconscious husband, police said.

On inquiry, officers learned that both husband and wife had ingested poison following a quarrel at home.

Ahmedabad Rural SP Om Prakash Jat said that one officer placed a finger in the unconscious husband’s mouth to induce vomiting, repeating the process several times until the poison began to come out. He added that the same life-saving step was carried out for the wife, who was on the verge of collapsing.

The couple was immediately shifted to Saraswati Hospital near Vakil Bridge. Doctors later confirmed that both were stable.

Meanwhile, police comforted the child, gave him food and water, and assured him that his parents would recover.
