Ahead of ministers meet, India, ASEAN officials review ties

NEW DELHI: A day ahead of the foreign ministerial dialogue on possible trade expansion and strategic cooperation in the Indo - Pacific region, top officials of India and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) met in New Delhi on Wednesday. The meeting reviewed the partnership between ASEAN and India, and discussed its future direction.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of relations with 10 countries the ASEAN Summit will be hosted by India from June 16 to 17. External Affairs Ministry Secretary (East) Saurabh Kuma chaired the meeting that happened on Wednesday and was attended by senior officials from ASEAN member states, according to the New Indian Express.

In a statement the MEA said that the ASEAN-India strategic partnership and its future direction was reviewed by top officials reviewed along with discussing steps for further implementation of the "Action Plan (2021-2025)" between the two sides.

The MEA statement added that the progress of cooperation under three pillars of partnership — political-security, economic and socio-cultural were assessed at the meeting.
