New Delhi: Adani Green Energy on Thursday announced withdrawal from two proposed wind power projects in Sri Lanka but still is ‘open to future collaboration’, news agency ANI reported.

The company in a statement said that it has convoyed the decision to ‘respectfully withdraw from further engagement in the RE wind energy project and two transmission projects in Sri Lanka’.

The company however will stay ‘committed to Sri Lanka and are open to future collaboration if the Government of Sri Lanka so desires’.

It is reported citing news agency Reuters that Adani Green Energy conveyed its decision on Wednesday in writing to the chairperson of the Sri Lankan investment board.

‘“It was learnt that another Cabinet appointed negotiations committee and Project Committee would be constituted to renegotiate the project proposal,’ the Adani Group company reportedly said.

The company’s withdrawal from projects came after the Sri Lankan government in January said it was negotiating with Indian company to cut down cost of power from the projects, according to Scroll.

It is reported citing Sri Lankan newspaper Daily Mirror that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during his India visit in December told Indian officials that the tariff quoted by Adani Green Energy was too high.

Following United States investigation into bribery and fraud allegations against Adani Group’s chairperson Gautam Adani, the Sri Lankan government reportedly revoked a power purchase agreement with the group on January 24.

When a US court indicted Adani in November over alleged corruption linked to solar projects in India, Sri Lankan administration started probe into the group’s projects in Sri Lanka.
