Chennai: When Tamil Nadu rural local body election results were out, around 59 members of actor Vijay's fan association, the Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, have won big. The actor has never declared his intentions to begin a career in politics.
All newly-minted representatives are from Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Tenkasi and Tirunelveli. The Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam said that 13 of the candidates won unopposed and the other 46 won by a huge margin of votes, reported The News Minute.
The members also said that Vijay himself allowed the fans to file nominations. The actor also gave permission to use his photos, name, and fan association flag for campaigning. He had also clarified that his official fan association is Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, and not the Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (VMI). Both organisations are not registered with the Election Commission of India.
VMI was founded by the actor's father and film director SA Chandrasekar. Vijay had filed a case against his parents in September asking them to not use his name or photo for any political activity.
